Lisa’s Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I’m a firm believer in creating a holistic environment for my dancers, one which ensures they receive the technical foundation required for them to succeed in any career. To remain true to that promise, I concentrate on dance medicine to provide a safe space for my dancers to perform and encourage my students and myself to engage in multiple styles of dance. This methodology promotes physical and mental wellness, prevents injury, encourages an open mindset about movement, and help cultivate versatile performers. Each year I attend conferences to continually grow as an educator, to constantly seek ways I can better my classes, and most importantly find ways I can reach each student’s needs.
It is my intent that my background will guide the students to set their own goals, accept their strengths and weaknesses, develop their awareness of musicality, have a solid foundation of anatomy to properly assess their bodies, and find the joy in the artistry of dance. The more comfortable a student feels with their facility, the easier it is for them to articulate how their body is functioning, engage themselves in creative settings, and give them the confidence to perform on and off stage. Whether my students choose to pursue a career in dance or some other avenue, the goal is for them to develop into smart, thoughtful, independent, and creative individuals.
